About The Artwork
I love the photography of Irving Penn and how he portrayed women at ease in their skin and being unapologetically free. I want the viewer to view the body no matter the shape, size, and texture in its natural state. To love the softness of flesh and its undulations. To be self-acceptant of their inner and outer landscape. The body holds wisdom and the vessel itself should revered as well. I chose to work with a limited palette so the focus is on the shape and not the colour. I named it An Unwanted Critique as when I initially finished this piece, someone had said "Is it finished" and then went on to say maybe it needs more of this when I didn't ask for a critique. This set off an emotional response in me as one of the reasons I paint is that I have encountered so much of the same over the years, you could be so much more if you did this, instead of celebrating who and where I was in that moment. This is my painting and it reflects who and where I am as an artist at the moment, I hope that whoever buys it knows that they are perfect in every way and where they need to be in their present moment.
