About The Artwork

Statues have always fascinated with their mystical charisma. They contain the traces of time and keep history alive. Here in Anghari, the artist has chosen this scene. It shows our modern age in contrast to the old customs, norms and duty to the nation. Today, this idea is slowly dissolving and one notices how the individual thinks more and more globally and the borders between the countries dissolve. But the past and the warlike nature of man still remains. And when it comes to defending his dignity and freedom, modern man will still take up arms. In the picture you can see the statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi pointing into the sky towards the clouds that transform into a menacing, warlike army. In contrast, you can see how at the foot of the monument carefree tourists rest after a nice hike.

Eric Hubbes was born in London and spent his youth in Francfort and then in Cologne. After one year in Scotland at Glenalmond College, where he focused on fine arts, he knew that art was his passion. After graduating from high school, he studied geosciences with 3 successful semesters and mathematics before returning to art. he then develops design and watercolor in Cologne and acrylic painting in Bonn, from the Alanus Academy of Arts. He then decided to study Fine Ars at the University "HKU" in Utrecht. After 3 successful semesters he came back to Cologne to go his own way, the university was too restrictive for his creativity. Since then, he has been living and working in Cologne Over time, Eric Hubbes developed his own personal style in which he related abstract and figurative painting. This also creates a play between geometric shapes and writing, which can be found in all his works. You could also think of these as fantastical worlds emerging from his subconscious. This idea arose mainly from the brooding that every person is inclined to. His main concern is to reflect the questions and ambiguity of our time in his pictures.
