ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is one of several studies of the green vase. The vase is a challenge to draw and paint, particularly because of the reflections. I have been exploring the relationship of the vase with other subject matters. The two apples are intense in color against the grey-white background. Consequently, the soft tone background compliments the lovely color of the vase and apples. French Master Impressionist artists like Manet and John LaFarge inspire me to paint still life paintings. I am also influenced by modern masters like Julian Merrow-Smith. My goal was to create an intense yet quiet image that would create a sense of peace and relaxation.
