My art is born from the blinding, shimmering light of Redondo Beach. I grew up watching the Pacific sun turn everything it touched into a radiant silhouette—a visual memory that defines my practice as a sculptural impressionist. My foundation in structural truth began at El Camino College, the same institution that shaped renowned expressionists like Dan McCaw. It was there, in a 1989 sculpting class, that my professor first recognized a raw, 'Rodin-esque' energy in my work. This instinctive handle on mass and light was further sharpened during my apprenticeship under the late California master Carson Gladson. By working directly on the underpaintings of his renowned pastels, I mastered the secret of building atmospheric glow from the ground up. I first fully committed to the palette knife in 2012, and today, my work is a departure from the 'safe.' I am reclaiming my voice with a bolder, more aggressive style I call 'Emergent.' My figures are purposefully distorted and vague, emerging from shimmering 'unknown' landscapes that reflect the energy and momentum of a world in motion. Based in San Clemente, California, my originals are collected internationally. Whether I’m 'slamming' thick impasto onto a canvas or sculpting a delicate rim light on a profile, I am building art that interacts with the physical world, catching every shift in light and inviting the viewer to witness a moment of becoming. Jennifer Beaudet Zondervan (formerly Jennifer Beaudet) has been a professional artist and a pioneer of sculptural impressionism since 2009
