About The Artwork

Mixed media on canvas, 2011. The first picture represents the colours of our flag in three concentric squares: the one in the middle of smaller dimension is the red, the colour of blood, the blood of our patriots who sacrificed their life so that Italy would become (and still is nowadays, 150 years later) a free and unified country. The middle square represents the white, the colour of the clean hair that we breath, the colour of serenity and the colour of honesty, the colour of our pure snow-white mountains and the colour of the foam of the sea against our shores. The third square, framing the all picture represents the green, the colour of hope, hope for a better future but also the colour of our mountains, of our valleys and of our woods , the colour symbol of the beauty and value of our land often mistreated and neglected. With this peculiar composition Savarese wanted to express a message of high moral value: the importance of respect for his motherland together with the love and respect for its cultural and artistic heritage as told by the article no. 9 of the Italian Constitution. To emphasise this statement this skilled artist, not only gives the title of Articolo 9 (Article no.9) to the manufact, but writes the all article onto the canvas using a particular technique often used by him. It is this love for the Italian natural and cultural heritage that brings Savarese close to the spirit and aims of the authors of the Italian Constitution that, already in 1947, understood the importance of protecting our artistic and natural resources and to promote the cultural and the scientific growth of Italy. Savarese has a dynamic understanding of this statement: preserving the environment cannot be discerned from preserving the artistic and cultural wealth of a nation and viceversa. At the same time, the use of mixed techniques and the colours’ choice and composition enhance this concept, with the green that not only delineates the canvas’s edges but links the picture to its environment… Raffaele Tamiozzo Art Legislator and Critic

"˜Art is for Angelo the true expression of the human social condition. [...] It is always the man at the centre of his artistic journey, journey that is sometimes physical, and that takes him to embrace different realities, and other times metaphysical, and that drives him to rediscover the thought and the words of poets, philosophers and patriots. His path is a journey of identification with the weakness and the greatness of the human soul and its many facets, a journey that Angelo translates into his work through the use of intense and evocative mood.' Daniela Vaccher Art Curator and Critic Born in Naples in 1967, Angelo Savarese is a Rome based artist and photographer. Passionate about art, Angelo has been painting and taking pictures since an early age. His style is eclectic, countless the things that inspire him. He creates art that is novel and abstract mixing geometric elements and writings in large canvas but he also likes to blend traditional elements with new settings and techniques. His work has been exhibited in many galleries in Italy and abroad since 2006 and it has been featured on the front cover of the Baltimore journal Progress in Neuroscience (2011). He was awarded the Premio Mnemosine in Rome (Italy) in April 2012. You can find out more about Angelo on his website: http://www.angelosavarese.com/index.html
