VIEW IN MY ROOM
Italy
Painting, Oil on Canvas
Size: 27 W x 35 H x 1 D in
In the corner of a room, seated on a chair, we find a woman dressed in a blue dress. The woman, who had her back to the observer just before, realising our presence turns towards us, and gracefully rests her arms and hands on the open back of the chair. Her dress, decorated with floral motifs, has her shoulders uncovered, allowing us a glimpse of a necklace and an earring, the latter with a blue stone in the centre, in perfect harmony with the eyes that meet our gaze. Her sweet, relaxed face hints at a smile, her hair is gathered up and partly grey, but it is her hands in the foreground that hint at the passing of time. In the mirror, the sweet image of her younger self with her gaze turned towards the window, where a wooded landscape and the beginning of a small road running through it are just hinted at, synonymous with the passage of time.
