About The Artwork

Part of a series of paintings celebrating the Arrival Of Spring in the Deben Valley. The edge of Bluebell wood painted en plein air inspired by the works of Monet,Van Gogh and Hockney. I hope the viewer feels present amongst the Bluebells ,underneath the trees leafing fresh green in the dappled light for a moment of calm and sense of joy at the return of spring in this quite corner of Suffolk

I am deeply attracted to my birthplace, like so many East Anglian artists.Born in Suffolk,I am a plein-air artist who paints in oils on location around old martlesham,Woodbridge,Waldringfield Hemley in the Deben Vale. With an impressionistic touch I aim to capture that special kind of east Anglian light and atmosphere into my pictures.Drawn to the river Deben with the luminous beauty of the cloud shadows on the marshes, the very flatness that makes one so aware of the all enveloping majestic skies. These lowland river scenes made me a painter. To see the ordinary everyday landscape transformed into something lyrical and dramatic .
