Andrea Volpicelli (Rome, 1969) is an artist currently based in his hometown, where he pursues a deeply personal and contemplative practice. With a background in architecture and a long career in communication and marketing — spanning private companies and governmental institutions — he eventually returned to visual art, guided by the conviction that it is never too late to follow one’s true path. His work is rooted in a minimalist and introspective approach, strongly influenced by Eastern philosophy and aesthetics. Ink on paper remains at the core of his practice — direct, unforgiving, and immediate — yet his work also extends to canvas and mixed media, where emotions and awareness are channeled through gestures that are at once spontaneous and intentional. Through this process, Volpicelli creates artworks that reflect on memory, impermanence, and emotional experience. The tension between presence and absence, vulnerability and strength, calm and intensity runs through all of his work, regardless of medium. Although his formal education includes studies in architecture and art history, his artistic path has been largely self-directed — shaped more by Zen painting, Japanese calligraphy, abstract expressionism, and contemporary minimalism than by academic frameworks.
