ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting captures a dynamic urban scene with a poignant interplay of light and shadow. The composition features pedestrians crossing a city street, bathed in the golden hues of sunset. The artist skillfully employs a palette of muted tones, contrasting the warm light against cooler shadows to create a dramatic atmosphere. The elongated shadows of the figures, stretching across the street, add a sense of depth and movement. Buildings in the background are rendered with a blurred, almost impressionistic touch, emphasizing the transient nature of city life. This piece evocatively portrays the fleeting moments of daily life in a bustling urban environment, encapsulating both the anonymity and interconnectedness of city dwellers.

I am a self-taught artist without a classical art education who studied interaction design and has been working as a freelance UX designer for over 14 years. I have been painting for more than 7 years now, working almost exclusively in oil. I live and work in Potsdam/Berlin. In my work I mostly deal with urban motifs and landscapes. I am interested in depicting geometric forms of urbanity with color, which is rather organically distributed over the painting ground. In turn, I paint the organic forms of nature as if they were geometric formations. I try to capture the atmosphere, the essence of a place in concrete terms while working as abstractly as possible. It is also about reducing the effort in the sense of a challenge. I try to be minimalist without sacrificing detail.
