MY STUDIO IS IN THE AUSTRALIAN BUSHLAND - AND ALWAYS ALIVE WITH BIRDLIFE, FROM EAGLES TO TINY DARTING HONEYEATERS, FINCHES AND WRENS. I STRIVE TO GIVE THE VIEWER A GLIMPSE OF THE DELICATE DETAIL AND BEAUTY OF THE TINY BIRDS IN MY GARDEN. A RANGE OF MEDIUMS WERE NEEDED TO CAPTURE THE BRILLIANT COLOUR AND DETAIL OF THIS GORGEOUSLY COLOURFUL TINY BIRD THE PAINTING IS EXECUTED ON AN IVORY AMPERSAND PRE-PREPARED GESSOBOARD WHICH HAS THE SMOOTHEST POSSIBLE SURFACE AND IS VERY STRONG. THIS HIGHLY DETAILED RENDERING TAKES A NUMBER OF DAYS TO COMPLETE.

I had a sell out exhibition at age 16 but my plans to go to art school were sadly thwarted. I've always worked in creative fields, even designed and project managed the build of the house I live in! Now I'm back to my first passion, painting and in particular, portraiture. Portraiture in its classical form is a rendering of the delicate and endlessly variable topography of the head and features - and a quest to convey something of the sitter through the artists eyes and also to some degree through the eyes of the viewer. It's a challenge and endlessly fascinating.
