About The Artwork

When I first painted "Elderly Man Busking in the Streets of Rome Wearing Adidas" it wasn't my intention to create a series out of it. That painting was about a man's love for music so much that despite his age and disabilities he continues to share his music with the visitors of Rome. There was a level of sadness to the painting. When visiting Barcelona this past October, I came across a completely different scene. We were walking in the park next to La Sagrada Familia, the sun had just started to break free of the overcast skies we had been experiencing. It was amazing how the music they were playing was so in tune with our experience of park and the church. These two friends were enhancing the serenity of the park with a soft, simple melody. Contrasting the elderly man in Rome, there was no pain in their bodies, no sadness to them. There was the shared love of their music and their friendship. Seeing this, I decided it would be great to do a series of paintings featuring busking. My goal is to match the painting to the feeling these musical artists bring to their environment. As Rome was a sad romance with the music; Barcelona was a calm, friendly, familiar feeling. The colors I used are deliberately to help convey this feeling. Green - Harmony, tranquility White - pure, sense of space Blue - calm, serene Brown - Friendship, warmth, reliability Looking back on my trips to other cities, it is amazing how music really can be influenced by it surroundings. I am looking forward to recreating some of my experiences with busking in London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, and wherever else I may travel soon. Oh, and don't forget to look close, the Adidas have been replaced with Puma.

Grew up in Detroit, spent 18 years in Columbus, Ohio, lived abroad outside London, UK, and now live in the metro Chicago area. Always drawing, I learned to paint in high school with a focus in watercolor. With a landscape architecture degree from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Capital University, I put my abilities to work in designing and constructing golf courses and countless gardens. Eventually I transitioned into creating marketing campaigns for a major US insurance carrier. I began painting again a few years back to help encourage my children’s creativity. When my family was given the opportunity to move outside London, I decided it was time to take my work public. My work is inspired by my experiences. More importantly, I am trying to share those experiences through my work. While in receiving my Landscape Architecture degree, I learned to design using the genius loci, or spirit of place. I want that spirit to come out in my art. The choice of subjects is based on a passion for my interests. I work in many different mediums and styles. I love the challenge of trying something new, which is reflected in the diversity of work.
