About The Artwork

Beauty in the Beads was chosen for display at ArtsWorcester and Fitchburg art Museum This painting was created with layers of mixed media, it took me 5 months from start to finish. Mixed media is all about blending different materials together. The addition of multiple layers is the key to making this artwork dynamic by creating depth and dimension. Medium Used: Acrylic on canvas, Real Maasai beads, cut canvas layers, fabric paints, I created this masterpiece through my imagination, It is my version of African Monalisa. Her name is Namunyak (Namu,) a Maasai name. The meaning of the name Namunyak represents innovation, independence, determination, courage, sincerity, and activity. People with this name are blessed with many leadership abilities, a desire to explore new horizons, and have the freedom to make their own decisions. If they have a true passion for something they are driven to achieve it.http://www.meaningslike.com/lastnames/name-stands-for/namunyak Inspired by the Maasai beads worn by the Maasai people. “There are a number of different colors used in Maasai beadwork, and each one holds a special meaning: red signifies blood, bravery, and unity. White represents health, peace, and purity. Blue is the color of the sky and represents energy, and green is the color of grass, which signifies land and production.” https://thomsonsafaris.com/blog/5-things-didnt-know-maasai-beadwork/

Hi, my name is Abu Mwenye. I am a Tanzanian American artist living here in the US. My areas of specialty are: Acrylic paintings, oils, commission works, and really anything which challenges my creative mind. My interest in Art was inspired by my Uncle's sketches. As a teenager I took formal art classes to hone my artistic abilities. Later, during my college years I studied sketching and watercolor painting. Now my passion is to paint with oils, acrylic and have been learning and exploring with them for quite awhile. My art depicts all aspects of African life.. My customers love that my work depicts many cultural scenes ranging from realistic portraits of Masai children to more abstracted tribal figures, and also includes realistic African landscapes. My love of art runs deep inside me, and I have an excellent eye for detail which helps to keep my clients happy.
