The inspiration for this painting came from one of my incredible patrons. I was fortunate enough to have met another person who loved nature, loved fine art and took pictures with a good sense of perspective, sought out subjects I loved and had the ability to travel all over the country and beyond to places I've always wished to go. They took pictures and documented time and place and the mood or feeling at that time. We then collaborated on a series of commissions of places that spoke to her and paintings for my portfolio that were of whatever inspired me at that moment while facing a blank canvas. This painting and it's twin "breaking storm" were painted back to back over a month long period of the study of value, color, atmospheric perspective and lastly to learn to let go and allow paintings to grow of themselves while mixing color on the fly. It was a wonderful experience and one that filled out my portfolio that had previously had paintings inspired by memories and photos from my past. I hope you enjoy this painting... Thank you for looking Private Collection

Matthew McDermott, b. 1981 NY, is an artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mat struggles with mental illness and epilepsy on a day to day basis but has found his purpose in the creative arts in the form of painting, stained glass and custom woodworking. Prior to 2018 his work was available only through a commission basis and resides in private collections throughout the United States. In 2015 he was fortunate enough to gain a patron that funded the body of his work now available in his portfolio. "My artwork has become my only way to find myself again. Life is good when I'm painting and creating and I'm happy because I'm doing what I love. When things are bad I focus on the fact that my art is there waiting for me to get better and that it is something to hang on to when everything seems so horrible and normal life feels like a dream or a story that can't possibly be real."
