Black Colourform 1 explores the impact of lighting upon the paint surface, with the painting including Matte and Gloss areas of paint. This means the painting gives many different looks dependant on the viewing angle and lighting, it has many subtle details which can only be seen up close. Exploring a non-representational art, using abstract keys such as shape, colour, form, and mark making. When painting I try to place emphasis on process, as well as explore the fundamentals of abstraction such as composition, formation, texture, colour and form to produce an image devoid of representational imagery. I want the viewer to be able to have their own thoughts regarding the processes involved in its making, be able to see brush strokes, layers, colours and areas of paint, the physical properties of the paint and its surface. I try to keep my work expressive, bold and instinctive and try to keep external factors out of my process to create something that is true, trying not to overthink, often leaving things to chance. This painting was created with high-quality acrylic paint on primed cotton canvas. The painting is not varnished. The sides are painted in black.The back is titled, signed and dated (year only) and will be supplied along with a certificate of authenticity.
