About The Artwork

I painted "Blue Bowl with Fruit" ("Blue Bowl Cornucopia") in 2006. This is the second painting in a series, after “Blue Bowl on Oriental Tray”. During this phase in my art life, I was doing mostly representational work of intimate, small size. The scene is lit by sunlight. An array of grapes and other fruits sits in a blue porcelain bowl on turquoise-blue tablecloth. In the background, a blue pitcher sits in front of a spray of green leaves. The varied blues play off one another. In the foreground, the fruits complete a full range of colours and make a lively, balanced composition. “Blue Bowl with Fruit” is both a painting and a study of the artist’s colour wheel. This is an original, signed work. The mediums are watercolour and gouache on shikishi board, an artists paper board used for painting and calligraphy. The shikishi has a gold-paper border, which you can see in the image. The painting is mounted in a white double mat. It is enclosed in a simple gilded wood frame and covered with protective glass. (The gilding is good quality imitation gold). A hanging wire is attached to the back. The painting will come to you ready for wall display. The dimensions of the painting itself are 5.28”H x 4.68”W x .06”D. With the double mat and frame, the dimensions of the artwork are 12.88“H x 12.88”W x .75”D.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I have been involved in visual arts, especially painting, all my life. My current work is semi-abstract and spontaneous, using a variety of mediums--paints, inks, pencils, coloured papers, textiles and found materials of all kinds--to explore the effects of line, colour and the expressive fluidity of paint. I am inspired by traditional brush calligraphy and its free expression as art. Exploring gestures of brush and ink on paper as a meditative discipline grounds my work and opens to infinite possibilities. I prefer working spontaneously, which allows something fresh and unexpected to come through. MEDIUMS USED I work in a variety of visual art mediums, including gouache, watercolours, sumi ink, acrylics, collage, coloured and printed papers, fabrics, recycled materials and mixed media.
