Boob Grab Painting

This painting is an exploration of my development and role as a woman. Females are often found in between stages of subject and object. A woman’s sexuality can transform her into an object, and she becomes nothing more. By catching the woman in between stages of subject and object, I bring attention to sexualilty’s ability to deteriorate the multiplicities of a woman. For this painting I looked to references from my own childhood, Boob Grab drew inspiration from the animated series The Powerpuf Girls. I didn’t directly want to reference them, but drew from the imagery. This creates undertones of a child’s perspective, but it is not so confrontational. The piece becomes more about the process of becoming a woman, and the expectations that do not add up to the imagined ideal. The woman is being treated as an object directly in the work, but the expression on her face makes it seem that she is questioning her own role within the painting. This painting in on oil paper, so it needs to be framed.
