I love an explosion of flowers... the colours, the textures, the sheer exuberance of life that is encapsulated within them. I also love to take a 'slice' out of images, hence the title of this piece of artwork.... I like the way it changes and enhances the details by cutting through the flowing lines. These flowers were given to me by a close friend who grew them himself. I couldn't stop looking at them on my windowsill and admiring their perfection so I photographed them and have finally got around to making them into a piece of artwork. I hope you find it pleasing and that it will put you in mind of celebrating life. Coloured pencils and gouache, chosen for their vibrant colour properties, on Bristol Board paper

I grew up on my parents riding school in Gloucestershire where I enjoyed an idyllic chiIdhood riding ponies, daydreaming and continually drawing all our family animals. I would spend hours admiring and trying to copy the works of Beatrix Potter and I developed, and still relish, my deep love of nature and a sense of enduring connection to the countryside. I now live deep in rural Herefordshire with my husband Mark, our two children Martha and Archie and our three dogs Henry, Lucy and Nellie. My work as an animal portrait artist keeps me constantly busy but whenever I get time I love to throw myself into private work where I can spread my creative wings. I love working in oils and enjoy capturing atmosphere in my paintings with occasional forays into surrealism. As well as working in oils I love to work with Caran D'Ache water soluble crayons, which I have been using since I was a little girl. I love the work of Mike Worrall, Gustav Klimt, Peter Blake and many others.
