ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Layers of calligraphy were built up on 100% cotton rag paper, then a single large gesture was brushed on the surface, wedding the small with the large. This work was inspired by the spontaneous nature of calligraphy. It is hoped that the viewer will feel a sense of connection between the minutiae of everyday life and the larger forces of the cosmos. The monotype medium was chosen to contrast the slow gradual buildup of the small characters with the quick creation of the large gesture.
