About The Artwork
Breathe comes signed and dated on the back, and fitted with d rings ready to hang. Breathe is inspired by Jones’ desire to understand and embody basic human emotions. It is inspired by Jones being interested in the idea of slowing down – which I do throughout my artistic practice. Building the painting up through layers of thinned oil paint, Jones creates a fusion of colour. Colour which has the capability of subtly influencing the viewers current wellbeing. Inspired by readings on Chromatherapy, I have chosen to focus on two of, what I believe to be, the most positive and affirming healing colours: orange and yellow. Yellow has been identified as the happiest colour, stimulating clear thinking, combined with orange which has been known to be an energizing colour encouraging oxygen intake to the brain.

Olivia Jones is an emerging artist based in Perth, Western Australia. Delving into the realm of the psyche and subconscious, my work explores emotional states through the sensual medium of oil paint. I am interested in the concept of the Slow Movement, the idea to resist the ‘speed’ and demand of society through deliberately enjoying the moment. This is utilised through a process-based methodology. By allowing my subconscious to direct the painting, rather than working towards an intended outcome, a process-based methodology enables spontaneous and intuitive actions to develop the artworks
