About The Artwork

I made this original painting of peaceful Buddha meditating in a specific hand gesture called "gyan mudra". Gyan mudra itself means hand gesture of knowledge that Buddha specifically had during enlightenment. My love for Buddha and buddhist philosophy inspired this work of art. This painting is in watercolor on thick watercolor paper. All materials used are of high quality. I chose purple and gray watercolor for the painting to give the painting a modern look with a soothing sense of calmness.

Hi everyone my name is Anandita Kumar. I am a 27 year old student from the state of Massachusetts who lives in the United States. I’m interested in pursuing the field of Public Health to become a researcher. I’m going to be studying at Umass Lowell. I have taken courses at Middlesex Community College. My hobbies are singing, dancing , painting, reading science articles from the library, traveling, playing badminton, and playing violin. I fluently speak the Indian language hindi and love the french language as well. I love learning different languages. I am also someone who loves going to the beach and staying close to the ocean. My parents are from India but I've lived in Massachusetts all my life. I've always had an interest in creating mixed media paintings but really became involved in making art in 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic started. I generally used art as a way to cope with health issues I've had for years and find it very calming and relaxing. The materials I use in my paintings are derwent watercolor pencils, graphite, water and a paint brush. Unlike other artists I use a different technique for my paintings. Initially I lightly sketch my painting on watercolor paper, then I outline the pencil portion of the painting, add color from watercolor pencils and then add water on top of the watercolor pencils using a paint brush. I love making abstract art, beach scenes, animals in nature, flowers and designs, and landscapes. I always try to add lots of color in my paintings to make them vibrant and tropical looking. Sometimes I look at photographs and try to make my own sketch or get inspiration and ideas for my paintings by looking at other artists paintings. Normally each painting I complete takes a minimum of 5 hours to complete. My work has ben displayed in the Chelmsford Art Society art gallery during the July 4th art show in Chelmsford center. I won second place for my Rhododendrons mixed media painting in a juried art show that was run by Chelmsford Art society this year in 2023.
