For the series "They Once Flew," discarded feathers that once propelled birds and the wings from deceased cicadas gain new life when used to create cyanotypes on paper. Darkening the cyanotype with tea serves to communicate the grief in loss of flight; spraying them with gold conveys new energy, rebirth, and adds movement to the abstracted compositions.

Jocelyn is a mixed-media interdisciplinary artist, living with her family in rural Appalachia in East Tennessee, USA. After receiving her B.A. in Studio Art from Messiah College, she pursued a career in writing, graphic design, and photography. After a decade of under her belt, several life events led her to leave that work to follow a path into fine art. She participated in the Artist Residency in Motherhood from 2016 - 2019. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and community spaces all over the United States. She pours her passion for the arts into her local community, serving on the advisory board for Create Appalachia, and coordinating artist meet-ups to foster growth and collaboration.
