the messy realities: the town and condominiums It is the first of the crucibles of the city that combines customs and feelings, bikes and sex, garages and courtyards condominium, small families in front of the TV, different races, winter frosts and summer heat, the smell of broccoli on the stairs and the accountant who lives on the the third floor. Massimo Costantino was born in Rome in 1955. In 1966 his family moved to Turin. The life in the former Italian Capital City is completely different from the one in Rome. The charm of Turin, where aristocracy and working class coexist, and the ideas and activities bubbling underground the apparent static of the city influence him deeply In the '70s he takes part actively in the artistic avant-garde and underground culture experimenting with a new music wave inspired by Berio, Nono and Stockhausen. He collaborates with the Anonymous Theatre Studio composing soundtracks, some of them shared with his mentor and guru Franco Battiato. At the same time he founds the Long Vehicle rock band and performs in the the best city clubs in Turin, Milan and abroad. At the end of the '80s he founds an underground club Il Tapiro Rullante Club which quickly becomes a meeting point and laboratory for musicians, artists, theater players and comedians, a forerunner of the more famous Zelig Theatre in Milan. 3,000 members join quickly the The Tapiro Rullante Club . Many italian and foreign artists perform along with him and the Long Vehicle in the club : green grass, blues, rock and pop groups and then famous comedians such as Walter Valdivia and Claudio Bisio along with absolute beginners. The Club is strongly opposed by the city authorities that at that time were strenuously hostile to any alternative cultural experiments and the The Tapiro Rullante Club is definitively closed with a particularly cruel and incomprehensible attitude. From 1998 Massimo Costantino devotes himself completely to painting that he already has practiced since the '70s in the search of its own and different aesthetic figurative and informal lines. His style could be described as new metaphysics; he proposes a suspended atmosphere, an abstract interpretation of reality. In 2002 he creates the '"Action Painting Jam" ® (registered trademark, property of Massimo Costantino). This painting is a painting jam session that draws its inspiration from music jam sessions . In the case of the Action Painting Jam, painters create art works during a choral performance, accepting to merge their gestures and strokes to create a unique painted sound as rock bands do, leaving untouched the personality of each instrument.
