About The Artwork

• The discovery of gold nuggets near a San Francisco river in 1849 led millions of Americans, Europeans, and Mexicans to rush to California to dig for gold. • You can call them the very first “California Dreamers”, but over the years millions and millions moved to California for better economic life, the glitter of Hollywood, its beaches and terrific climate - knowing that their head could be crushed by the earthquake. • With 16 million Hispanics, blacks, and Asians dominating its 40 million population, California’s big output in construction, technology, manufacturing, farming, and film-making have ranked it the world’s 4th largest economy - bigger than India, France, and Russia. • But because of its high cost of living, taxes, home prices, homelessness, wildfires, pollution, and corruption - 100s of 1000s of residents continue to leave the state disappointed. • In fact, California is now rated the worst state for people to live and work, just like New York. • In my artwork, you see a woman from Anaheim walking, and nobody knows if she was planning on leaving, or was still dreaming.
