This artwork of me is part of the my Hungary Today Series. I started painting this artwork before the 2018 election, but I wasn’t able to finish it. After the 2018 elections in Hungary the populist-nationalist party won a constitutional majority within the House. I finished it 2019 before the municipal elections. Strange processes are taking place in a world where Democrats are being overthrown in a row. I hope this series is interrupted in 2020.

In recent years, I have used OSB as a basis. By retracting the paint layers, I use the texture of the veneer as part of my compositions to create a unique rustic industrial atmosphere. . Due to the OSB plate, these artworks are heavy.
The painting is made with self-made paint, which basically consists of pigments and beeswax. Does not contain oil or other paints.
The procedure itself dates back to antiquity and has been known for thousands of years. Only few artists around the world work with wax on its own.

Pictures made with encaustic are characterized by bright color and silky light. Thanks to the well-preserving properties of the wax, the colors do not fade over time and retain their liveliness.
Encaustics paintings, like paintings taken with oil, must be protected from water and physical influences. Do not place under glass when framing!
Over time, they become dusty or slightly oxidized by the wax. In this case, it is advisable to wipe with a slightly crumpled kitchen paper towel and the painting regain their original brilliant color and shine.

About The Artwork

In " Cards Castle," I use the imagery of a delicate structure made of Hungarian cards in front of the Hungarian parliament to reflect on the fragility and instability of the political system. The House of Cards, a symbol of precarious balance and vulnerability, stands in stark contrast to the imposing and monumental architecture of the parliament building. Through this juxtaposition, I invite the viewer to consider the potential for the collapse of the political system, and the consequences that such a collapse could have for the country and its people. The Hungarian cards, with their unique symbols and designs, add a layer of cultural specificity to the image, highlighting the importance of national identity in the political discourse. At the same time, the use of the House of Cards as a metaphor suggests a broader critique of the global political order, where the actions of individual actors and the fragility of complex systems can have far-reaching and unpredictable consequences. In this sense, the painting speaks to larger questions about the nature of power, instability, and resilience in contemporary society. Overall, " Cards Castle " is a powerful and timely commentary on the political situation in Hungary and beyond, and a testament to the power of art to provoke thought and spark dialogue. The encaustic is equipped with a simple wooden exhibition frame, which harmonizes with the industrial style of the painting and highlights it well. Ready to hang! This work will be delivered with Care Instructions for my encaustic paintings and a signed certificate of authenticity.

„I show the details instead of the whole, sort of inviting the viewer to embrace and understand their surroundings” Dora Stork was selected artist in the London Art Biennale in 2023, an award-winning Hungarian painter whose art has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in the UK, Hungary, and Romania. Her work can also be found in many private collections in the United States, the European Union, and Japan. Dora is an abstract realistic encaustic artist: abstract in the world of color, realistic in the world of form, and symbolist in meaning. As a politically minded painter, she is interested in public life as well as social and economic processes. She presents her particular vision in these works. The dreamlike compositions are her intuitive reflections on public issues. At the same time, seemingly astonishing, strange circumstances and inappropriate details on a rational sphere might evoke questions in the viewer. She mainly uses pure wax and pigments to make her paintings. Over the years, she has developed a medium that does not contain oil or any non-waxy additives. When she occasionally paints with acrylic, the characteristics of her figurative style transform into an imaginary interpretation of nature. Dora is an active, awarded member of her community and regularly takes part in their group exhibitions every year.
