About The Artwork

This work is part of the series of paintings entitled "Take me with you", made during the pandemic period. An immigrant suitcase, which brings many stories from where it came from, becoming a character who wants to return to her route around the world. This series is the result of the relationship between the perception of a moment of uncertainty and the gesture that reaches the canvas through the hands and the matter of the pigments. The original function of the suitcases was not there. Transporting clothes and objects on trips is not the objective of the characters in these paintings. Through experiments in chromaticism, textures and transparencies, the suitcase wants to talk about the desire for movement. The images refer to the life that was suspended for many people. But this is just one of the stories behind the possible concepts that these suitcases carry, such as their condition of inertia, or immobility.

Odette Boudet is a visual artist from Rio de Janeiro. In 2018 she moved to Porto, Portugal. Master in Plastic Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (2022) and Graduated in cinema from Federal Fluminense University (1988), she has been dedicated to painting since 2011. The artist-researcher has presented her production in the cultural scene of the north of Portugal and in Brazil. The research in painting begins with the theme of movement, displacement and affective memory, through the metaphor of a suitcase. The theme expands to the relationships between the space of painting and the cinema screen, where she finds arguments to address current issues such as immigration and violence. Thought and gesture are crossed by a camera.
