ABOUT THE ARTWORK
THIS WORK IS 13x9 on 14x11 paper When I arrived in Buenos Aires, it was early spring. I had to put aside preconceived images of aqua skies and flowering parks and gardens. Browns and greens with bits of ochre surrounded me. Wide white bands of terrace walls rhythmically climb the tall apartment complexes. Generous white stripes marked pedestrian crosswalks. These stood out from the black and gray. I watched bare chested Los Cartoneros pull heavy wooden wagons; a wealth of boxes flattened and stacked, paper stuffed in white recycling sacs. Corner flower stands were bursting with color, greenhouse bouquets wrapped in paper and placed in buckets along the cast iron rails. I watched as early spring slowly turned into la primavera, with lavender listeria and the scent of jasmine in the air.
