Charybdis was the daughter of Poseidon. In her father's battle against Zeus, she swallowed up land and islands with water. This work is part of a series, "Charybdis in Hawai'i". As a personification of sea-level rise, her appearance in Hawai'i is seen as a second 'contact' (the first being Captain Cook) with something that threatens to disrupt and destabilize society.
