Chesney Henry Baker, Jr., known as "Chet Baker", born at Yale, Oklahoma, USA, on December 23, 1929, and died in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on May 13, 1988, was an American trumpeter, bugler and jazz singer. From the outset, his style was delicate and fragile, and evolved in the second part of his career: his playing often seemed to be on the verge of breaking, alternating light staccato and legato, in long, sinuous, sensual and vaporous phrases, often in the low register, underlined by breath effects and by the proximity of the bell and the microphone. Above all, he has mastered the art of ballads. His singing has the same characteristics, even in scat improvisation, which is far removed from the exuberance of a Dizzy Gillespie or Ella Fitzgerald. His improvisations remain above all in a medium register far from the high-flying flights of Dizzy Gillespie. The bassist Riccardo del Fra, who played with Chet for a long time, explains his particular conception of music : "I felt a depth in him that moved me, I also learned self-control with him: that is to say, trying to do the essential. Perfection, as we know, does not exist. But when he plays, he is very close to it. And when you play with him, you really have to serve the music and free yourself from your ego. Let's say that his virtuosity is more magical than technical. » His work expresses, by antithesis, a delicate and modest lyricism.

France
I am a passionate Dutch portraitist who lives and works in France (Blois). I paint personalities and people who touch me, inspired by their talent and vision of life. My paintings are a tribute to these artists of all kinds, authentic, pure and, in my opinion, talented. I started with figurative Portraits. Now I am experimenting with pop art and contrasting colors. I like to work in series: Forever 27, Jazz musicians and singers, Impressionist Painters, Pop Music Stars, French singing and musical artists. I am happy to share these portraits with you and invite you to discover them here.
