Chingle Hall Painting

If you are familiar with this painting's title and subject matter then the building I have depicted will need no further introduction. Suffice it to say that it enjoys a singular reputation. More importantly, I was intrigued whether an exercise in rendering the subject in paint would, in its own right, still communicate something of its character as a purely fictional two-dimensional study. This work was completed in the studio. It employs a wide range of techniques in acrylics: from the impasto of the building, to the use of glazing media in the sky and the detailed brushwork of the foreground. As the artist, this process of developing the layers in alternating passages of expressive and controlled application was most enjoyable; rather belying the ultimate nature of the artwork.
