Chitrangada: The princess of Manipur Painting

Chitrangada: The Princess of Manipur- According to the ancient epic ‘The Mahabharata’, Chaitrangada was the only child of King Chitrabahan and the heir of the throne as per Manipuri custom, trained to wage war and to rule. During Arjun’s exile (One of the most important characters of The Mahabharata; A Great Archer and prince of Hastinapur of Kuru dynasty), he reached Manipur and fell in love with Chitrangada. They would marry and after their son Babrubahan’s birth, Arjun came back from Manipur. As the crown Princess of Manipur, Chitrangada could not come with Arjun. Many years later, after the great war of Mahabharata, Arjun again visited Manipur with the horse of Ashwamedha Yajna and was defeated by Babrubahan, his own son. There was a happy ending, as then Chitrangada came to Hastinapur with Arjun. In the painting, Chaitrangada is practising archery on the hills of Manipur, in north east India, wearing the traditional Manipuri dress. When carefully observed the painting, one can visualise the beautiful scenery of Manipur. The deer I painted are called ‘Sangai’, a special type of deer which is only found in Manipur now. The bird with long feather is called ‘Nongin’, declared as the state bird of Manipur on 1989. The ‘Black headed Ibis’ over the lake is endangered now and only one is spotted after twenty years. The Pink flower ‘Siroy lilly’ is the state flower of Manipur. The fishes jumping over the water are ‘Pengba’ fish, the state fish of Manipur, reported to be regionally extinct in wild. All my paintings including this one are conceptualized, authentic and painted by only me. There are no copies and is the one piece. Look there is a short signature on front side. On the backside of the painting there is full Signature for authentication. An authentication certificate will also provide with the painting. Canvas: Pre-stretched canvas with wooden frame.
