In the Christmas Time painting, I shown the trees decorated with colored lights that turn on during December nights through the country, which delighted me as a child. I used creamy-blue shades to evoke the musky fragrance of fir tree branches full of fluffy snow, which I illustrated with highly textured touches of immaculate white. I applied bright red and hot magenta shades to recall the glittering Christmas music, and clear green and bright yellow shades to illustrate the pleasure and joy children experience during the holiday season. This painting is part of my Polar Garden series which invites you into a wold of frost and snow on a black and white background, that I warm up with bright colors. In this series I have sought to illustrate how the feel or smell of frozen forest and winter become colors in my mind, creating joyful stories of living nature, beneficent fairies and holiday magic. This impressionistic canvas is 36x24in. The patterns of the painting continue on the 1½in sides. It is strung with picture cords ready to hang.

My work is a testimony of my sensory experiences. I seek to communicate the emotions that the beauty of the world generates in my mind and the joy I experiences at the sight of this beauty. My inspiration comes from synaesthesia, a neurological phenomenon in which sensations and emotions are associated with colors. In my paintings and drawings, the subject's colors are disconnected from reality to show a new world of sensations that are being created in my mind. In my works, I capture my subject’s details and forms to interpret them in an expressionist style, close to abstraction. The patterns of the natural colors change according to the emotion they create in my mind - the pink petal turns yellow, the red vein turns green, and so on. I first sketch the patterns of the living model or photograph, then paints large colored areas with a brush or knife. I finish by tracing the contours and shapes of the subject directly from the bottle, and let the paint drips on the sides. I also add paste or cotton fabric to give more texture to the scene and recall the natural look of vegetation.
