About The Artwork
The work is inspired by the early 20th century dada methodology of collage, and is based on the studies made on the subject. Exploring the sense of dimensionality and overlay of different textured materials, I used acrylics and acrylic based pour mediums filling the canvas step by step, which allowed me to create the vivid and visually captivating composition which combines gloss with matte, textured with smooth, realistic with cartoonish. The name "Chunka" refers to the childish and humanized creature at the top right corner, highlighting it as the main aspect of the painting, asking the question "why is it here" and "what even is it."
