City Gateway - London's New Dockyard Painting

I spent many days over the summer walking along various bits of the Thames Estuary Footpath. I took the train to Tilbury from London and started walking. One day I walked 8 miles and only saw a handful of people - at the far end of the walk. The river stretches out on the right and flat, semi derelict land sits overlooking the river on the left. The path lies between. The weather was so hot. I could see the City Gateway in the distance. I had to go back another day and get closer to it. It was shimmering in the heat and yet still bright and structural in the stillness. The landscape is very quiet, only huge ships occasionally going past. This landscape is bleak and huge and flat and fascinating and empty of people, which is extraordinary when you think this is so near London and such a big part of its economy.
