Colonial relic Painting

The painting is of a section of a graceful, circular pond that would have featured at the entrance of a colonial homestead in the old Transvaal. The pool is tiered and has shallow plant-pots that appear to float like bristling islands. The original plants that were planted on the central tier and in the pots have long since disappeared and have been replaced with dried grass and dying weeds. The scene was so poignant to me. It seemed to express so much history and evoke a sense of a lost era. I loved the gold ochres and olive green of the algae and the delicate reflections of the sky in places. I work on high quality 100% cotton-duct canvas with good quality British paint.
