Svetlana Shalygina 1973-2023 Svetlana Shalygina was born in 1973 in former Soviet Union and immigrated to USA when she was 20 years old. She worked hard to build a life in a foreign country all by herself, but always found time to sketch, paint and create. Deeply fascinated by classical art, poetry and literature since early childhood, she dreamed of studying art in New York. After realizing the expansive goal of formal art education was to never become reality, Svetlana moved to Phoenix, AZ where she found quiet and mysterious beauty of desert incredibly inspiring - it was dramatically different from anything she had ever seen before, and so she dove into creating full time. In the years that followed she traveled the United States and Europe, relentlessly visiting museums, art shows and exhibitions, and admiring architecture and atmospheres of Milan, Paris, Rome, Vienna and many others, while developing her self-taught skills and style, which made her creative path that much more unique. Svetlana’s art is a testament of her profound interest in human behavior and emotions, love of nature, poetry, diverse cultures and an incredible ability to see the beauty in everything that came in her path. Her eclectic pieces have been shown in galleries all over the world, as well as featured in art and interior design magazines. When she was dabbed ‘the darling of America’s leading interior designers’ by Yorkshire Living magazine, it was especially appreciated because interior design was something she was also deeply passionate about. Today Svetlana’s art adds sophisticated touch and elevates some of the most beautiful interiors around the world, which is something she found pride in. In the August of 2022 Svetlana was diagnosed with cancer. After short but relentless battle she passed away in June of 2023. Even while sick and weakened by treatments, she never stopped doing what she loved the most and felt was her purpose - creating art. It gave her visible happiness and drive, even in the darkest of times. She is terribly missed by everyone who knew her and who’s lives she inevitably touched. Limited collection of art works Svetlana left behind provides a small glimpse at how she saw the world to be vibrant, beautiful and endlessly intriguing. Portion of proceeds from sale of Svetlana's art are to benefit varies non-profit organizations that help fight Childhood Cancer.
