There's a lot of symbolism associated with the image of snake, and it may be considered contradictory, because the snake is perceived as sacred in some cultures, and cursed in others. One of the most well-known examples of snake symbolism is the healthcare logo, that includes serpents and was most likely inspired by Greek mythology. Throughout history snakes were commonly used both in medicine and witchcraft. Snake is at the same time the representation of wisdom and eternity, and a reminder of temptation and danger. Snakes were worshipped in some cultures, reflecting the aspirations for longetivity, immortality, fertility, yet dreaded in other cultures, where their appearance alluded to sin, poison and demonic powers. Polarisation of outlooks on snakes seems to me a vivid example in terms of exploration of subjectivity and duality, and mystification, which I tend to undertake through some of the artworks, and also in my own experience of life. Creators of various disciplines tend to experience world in a nearly extrasensory way. Halfway through this new set of paintings, as it became apparent in the middle of work, I've decided on the objective, which is to picture an insight to artist's heart, sketching the pathway in various riddle-like scenes, which may even seem like trials and sometimes give off the look of metaphoric cards or tarot cards. Paintings of similar character are, for example, "The lemon tree branches", "Reflections" and "Nature's allegory". How to visually grasp the dynamic attributes of humanly self without the figure itself, without the silhouettes or forms that would remotely remind of human appearance? The title to these series of paintings is Coração, meaning heart, but also a little reference to the first part of my nickname, which is a slightly funny metaphor for intensely blue color.

Latvia
Born and residing in Riga, Latvia. I've been interested in art since childhood, immersing myself in drawing and the history of art. I work mainly with oil and acrylic paint, sometimes watercolor, but not exclusively, as I enjoy trying out new techniques and experimenting with mediums. Vast part of my paintings feature nature and its' different sides, shapes, contrasts, in a somehow impressionistic way, displaying bright and almost overly saturated colors, on the edge of dream and reality.
