Cornish Path 3 by Jack Painting

The familiar coastal Paths of Cornwall and Jack’s spirit are brought together in this colourful acrylic articulation of out of season walks. Jack’s uncompromising mark making, love of place and time are demonstrated in the subject, a simple path, with all of its beauty affirmed. Jack said about the series, which includes small sketches: So often I am balancing the needs of our inner family finding my own ‘down time’ can be hard. This particular weekend was an absolute gift! I love this walk in Porthleven however somehow I have never found a starting point to paint it! I have been so dissatisfied with my landscapes .... I have tried capturing the epic scenes I have seen and felt nothing! However visiting the Kurt jackson foundation I was lucky enough to bump into a long time hero of mine Kurt Jackson himself! He was enormously generous in his conversation with me and his wisdom changed the way I looked at the landscape ‘begin with the small thing and paint what you want’. The next morning, dragging my friend Alina with me, I went to the path. It wasn’t the epic waves I wanted to paint but the stubborn little weed that battled against the elements that were being thrown at us and It! It was utterly liberating- I felt the beauty for the first time and loved it! I have brought this method home with me and found it to be ‘my time’ a precious piece of advice. Jack is one of several of our ‘inner family’, beckynewellart. Living with Dissociative Identity Disorder, as a result of extreme childhood trauma, several personalities live within one body each finding talents of their own. Jack, Fi, Elby and sometimes Tom are creative. Jack’s work is particularly notable for his in-depth self reflection, unflinching honesty and quality of fine art.
