Adinell Rivas is a self-taught contemporary figurative painter born in Venezuela to a multicultural family. Her father’s Indian heritage and a life lived across Europe gave her early the experience of being between worlds, never entirely belonging to one place, one culture, one way of seeing. Painting was never a choice. It was a necessity. A private language developed alone, through obsessive study of the great masters, through travel, and through the kind of childhood that teaches you to build an interior world. She is currently based in Mallorca, Spain. Her work has been collected in Germany, Norway, Sweden, the United States, South Africa and India. Her paintings center on women, not as subjects to be observed, but as presences that carry emotional states: memory, silence, longing, desire, interior strength. The figures do not narrate. They create in the viewer a feeling that arrives before understanding. She does not paint to fill a wall. She paints to change the quality of a room.
