ABOUT THE ARTWORK

When I started painting this, it was at the beginning of the war between Ukraine and Russia. It was a heavy and difficult moment and I struggled a lot at the beginning to late myself go in this painting. At first, the traits were dark and strong. I did not feel like I was creating something new. I felt stuck in similar patterns from other paintings. As usual, I had some days of distance from my painting and came back with the need to bring something new into this process. I used for the first time materials that I haven't combined before: acrylic, oil, spray, charcoal and crayons. I trusted my intuition and started exploring with courage. At the end, it took me sometime to process what I have painted. Now, I understand. This was the moment of process towards a more courageous mindset. This painting has been sold to a billionaire for the highest value I have ever sold a painting. I am finally learning to value my art more.

Alejandra Abad was born in Ecuador and grew up in the Italian part of Switzerland. She has life and professional experiences in four continents and these countries have enriched her with multiple cultural perspectives and enabled her to learn several languages. She is a graduate from EHL Hospitality Business School and a professional in hospitality in Zurich, Switzerland. Since she was a child her call was to draw and paint. During the pandemic, she had more time to reflect and give weight to an important side of herself: the Artist. During this process, she met Rolando Duartes, a Cuban artist living in Switzerland, that saw her potential and started teaching her techniques and supporting her the development of her creativity with a holistic approach. She uses painting as a way to connect with her body, mind and heart. As a tool of self-discovery and self-awareness. She uses the influence of music and food in her creative process and uses them as a way to enter and stay in her creative flow. In her paintings you can see her Latin American roots but also the influence from her travels: the colours from street art and the shades and shapes from nature and food.
