About The Artwork
The media are watercolor, Japanese sumi-e ink and drawing ink. Painted 4 months into the pandemic, The Latex gloves and the blackened, diseased looking roses, are symbolic of COVID, at a time when it felt all pervasive without any relief in sight. The compass I drew relates to the hexagons which form the structure. Sumi-e ink is from an ink stone which you wet and you can get varied degrees of black, from deepest black to lightest gray.

I draw pure geometry to create order and beauty in what I feel is an unstable world. Freehand drawing is woven into some of my paintings of 2018 to the present, and I have added other media such as gouache paint, collage, sumi-e ink and drawing ink and have moved into more Mixed Media pieces.
