About The Artwork

After having participated in the Nasty Women exhibition in Bushwick Brooklyn in December 2016, I made "Crossing the Threshold". The painting is set in the Mumak Museum complex of Vienna and makes use of three cutout figures, hanging from the top edge of the stretcher. It refers obliquely to the Martyrdom of St Matthew by Cravaggio, in the church of San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. In this painting, the man looking back over his shoulder at the crime being committed in the foreground is said to be the artist himself, aware and engaging the viewers.Threshold is set in an art museum, as is most of my work, but here the wall is covered with ivy leaves, that transform the art interior into a verdant space.
