About The Artwork

My paintings are irregular in shape and the Saatchi "view" tool simply does not accommodate irregular shaped artwork.] Cyan is the study of a strong, beautiful young woman defiantly facing you and the world. She is sexy, self-confident and beautiful. She is not afraid to show her personality. She is not afraid to look you in the eye. She is not ashamed of being fragile and broken. I choose glass because the soul is like glass: Beautiful. Fragile. Oftentimes broken. Always unique. In this series I strive to capture the soul of my subjects. A unique identifier across many of my faces is the obscuring of an eye which drives the viewers focus deep into the soul of my subject though a single portal. My vision comes to life as I jigsaw a large piece of Plexiglas, breaking off pieces as I go. Using a propane torch I temper the edges. Once the glass preparation is complete I paint from the back of the glass using acrylics. I also apply other media, such as papers and cloth, as I go. On many paintings I also add highlights to the front of the glass giving a 3 dimensional feel to the painting. The finishing touch is the exquisite jewels I apply to the front of the glass. A thick mounting frame strategically adhered behind the glass dramatically offsets the image from the wall behind it. The end result is a stunning and unique painting that immediately attracts attention from anyone who enters the room. The innovative medium of cut plexiglass creates a creative and unique shape on your wall. It is highly original and cannot be copied or printed. My goal is to create a unique experience that only a true, original work of art can create. Cyan will add a powerful, colorful and mysterious punctuation to any wall in need of a strong and innovative statement.

My art seeks to penetrate the soul and shed light on the human condition. To do this I focus on the existential pursuit of all living things. A pursuit I find best realized in musicians, dancers, places people gather and interact such as cafes, bars, street corners, …people who desperately seek meaning and strive to define their identity. I try to capture that moment…to freeze frame a fleeting and elusive heartbeat when an individual’s face or body communicates their desperate search for something more. My preferred medium is glass. Like the human soul it is beautiful. Fragile. Often times broken. And like the soul, no two of my paintings are alike. Each is a stunning original with lasting value. Much like the people that I paint. It’s often said that the human figure is the most difficult to paint. While this may be so, it’s both my gift and my passion. I seek uniqueness and meaning as I attempt to capture and lay bare the very souls of my subjects. Bringing them to life through the breaking, forming and painting of glass.
