ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Marcelo R. Zeni is from Muçum, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He has been professionally dedicated to art for forty years, graduating in Fine Arts from Feevale University with a specialization in graphic design-art in communication from Unisinos. FROM 1999 to 2019 he taught technical advertising and advertising courses and higher education design courses. During this period he divided his time between teaching and artistic production. He participated in numerous collective and individual exhibitions across the country and abroad, with works in various collections. Currently he dedicates himself exclusively to art in his studio located in the Lomba Grande neighborhood in Novo Hamburgo. The creative process results from the combination of references with experiences. They are rescues of moments lived and transformed into symbolic elements. As an example, I cite the series “Paper Jellyfish”. My interest in art began as a child, where I filled my notebooks with drawings. It could have been just a moment if there hadn't been the encouragement I received from my colleagues when requesting these drawings. Remembering these moments, I rescued the shape of the spiral paper sheet detached from the notebook, which became a visual element in a large part of my production. In the series “Brown and Pink in the Late Afternoon the leaf appears between the figure's hair, in Paper Medusas it turns into strips. Generally the themes present my way of being and expressing my worldview.
