About The Artwork

This is the first painting that uses a squeegee technique that will become a common feature in many later art works. Also, after seeing Helen Frankenthaler’s paintings at an exhibition in Venice, 2109, her process of staining canvases made a lasting impression on me. This technique is also adopted and used in some of my future work. In this painting called ‘Deep Heart’, thinned acrylic paint is poured over the paper on the floor, then when dry, worked over with traditional brush work. The large pink area you can see, is my first ever use of a squeegee. Acid colour greens, blues and pink make the painting a very strong and energised picture to behold. The painting comes backed on heavyweight quality fibre paper in a roll so you can frame the work in a way that suits you.

My interest in art started at an early age. I remember seeing books at home where I grew up in the 1970's. The books were about impressionism, surrealism and my favourite showed art from the DADA movement. In my teens I became obsessed with Andy Warhol and it was at this point that I realised making art was what I wanted to do. The Paintings you see on my Saatchi Art platform are in chronological order. The first paintings were made in 2018. They were created very precisely and accurately and are influenced by minimalist ideas. Through 2019 my work moved away from minimalist abstractions and started to veer more towards an expressionist style. Through 2020 and going into 2021, I am exploring ideas that attempt to strike a balance between a minimalist mindset and the spontaneity of an expressionist. The paintings are created using acrylic on heavyweight paper and sometimes I use charcoal, graphite and oil pastel. In the next few month I will be starting to execute my larger paintings on canvas.
