Des Tournesols à Dallas. Oil on canvas, by Isaac Wells, is the result of a case study on Van Gogh sunflowers series of paintings, his use of bold loaded with paint (impasto) yellow tones; therefore, a reminiscence of those magnificent paintings of sunflowers that he once started sketching in Paris, and in Arles, France while struggling with epilepsy. Des tournesols à Dallas originated as an idea in Dallas at the time of the Van Gogh Immersive Global Exhibit presented in September 2021. Two enormous arrangements of sunflowers were placed at the bottom of the stairs flanking the entrance of the lieu where the phenomenal exhibit took place. The impulsive photographs taken by the author initiated the journey from conception based on sketches, digital treatment of imagery, preparation and treatment of the surface following the recipes contained in El Libro del Arte, involving pigments preparation, to final completion of this piece, whose hard undertakings took over a period of 8 months, and 18 hours. Its large format permits viewers a long lasting immersion in the splendor of nature igniting in their mind and soul an in-depth censorial experience. In short, Isaac’s work of art is a humble homage to Van Gogh’s outstanding character as a genius impressionist.
