About The Artwork

The inspiration for the work came from an evening stroll by the beach, incidentally, the shells collected during the walk have been used as a part of the painting. On looking closely, the viewer will be able to see a distinct underwater imagery as well as the land above. The figures of shiva and Parvati have been used to symbolise a couple/lovers. As per Indian mythology, shiva was a hermit and the formative depiction of the masculine energy prevalent in the universe, and Parvati the feminine half. Their union was imperative for propagation and balance in the universe. After severe penance and realisation of the self could Parvati attain shiva, and shiva without Parvati is 'shava' i.e. a corpse. She is the life force of all creation. The painting is made on mount board and the media used include acrylic paint, photo colours and rotting pen. The painting is encased in a light grey box frame, with a glass to protect it from any environmental wear and tear, the frame comes with hanging hardware.
