Dirt Track Painting

Dirt Track captures a mood reminiscent of the South African Limpopo bushveld game farms. The light reflects off the buck much as the light of vehicle head lamps would. The rough surface texture and the scars on the wood, as well as the nail heads, make an important contribution to the work by maintaining the presence of the surface, and by keeping the brush marks from becoming photo-realist. The subject of the work is the underlying tension, which is not easily expressed in words. The painting has been painted on a found piece of plywood, which was first saturated with genuine turpentine, then glued to an Oregon pine frame. The back and sides of the painting have been coated with a black enamel. The painting does not need to be framed as the existing frame serves this purpose giving a modern look. The edges are painted black. However, this is a matter of taste, and an outer frame can mounted onto the existing frame which would then serve as a matt.
