About The Artwork

"Disguise" is intended to be a thought-provoking and introspective painting that delves into the complexities of human emotions and societal expectations. The use of mixed techniques such as oil and acrylic can create a visually rich and textured artwork, enhancing the depth of the message conveyed. The portrayal of a woman with full, long black hair, her face obscured yet hinting at a smile, invites viewers to ponder the nature of her emotions. The ambiguity of whether it's a happy smile or a façade adds layers of interpretation to this piece. The concept of disguise and societal conformity is a compelling theme in art, as it resonates with the human experience of navigating between authentic self-expression and societal norms. The idea of wearing a figurative mask to conform to societal expectations while hiding one's true feelings and identity is relatable to many. "Disguise" encourages viewers to reflect on their own experiences with societal expectations and the masks they wear in different contexts. It prompts introspection and invites empathy towards understanding the complexities of human emotions and the pressures of conformity.

I am a Swiss artist from the region of Fribourg, Western Switzerland. The cubist representation of urban and industrial subjects in the artworks of the American painters Charles Sheeler, Charles Demuth and partially Edward Hopper, influenced me a lot at the time, making me approach this artistic style. Since then the city and nature, in all its forms, remains a great source of inspiration for me. Through my artworks, I exploit the figurative and graphic style close to abstraction but also realism. Oil paint is the essential material I use for my creations, in some cases I use other media and techniques such as acrylic, ink, charcoal, collage and screen printing.
