Acrylic on canvas. This painting was created in a slightly different way to my usual style in that I laid a background down first. The object/dissolving thought is created in my usual manner. The texture in the paint is created partly by burning the paint with a heat gun. It is a wonderful way to work. Watching the paint bubble and burst is amazingly therapeutic and fun. As with most of my paintings I am happy to provide an analysis of its' personal meanings and associations ie. my interpretation of what this painting is about. Often this analysis grows deeper over the years but after painting I am usually aware of something that it might indicate about my psyche or a message from my unconscious. To provide an in-depth analysis I am willing to practice my knowledge of art therapy on myself. This canvas is deep edged with the painting continuing around the sides. It is, therefore, ready to hang unframed.

Larain Briggs' work is introspective, self-reflective, and recursive. Her creative process involves revisiting and reinterpreting previous works, layering and interweaving images and meanings while transitioning between two-dimensional, three-dimensional, digital, and virtual worlds. Through analysis of symbols that emerge in her work, she establishes a dialogue with the unconscious, facilitating individuation (development of the Self) and informing her creative practice and research. Her research is grounded in psychoanalytical theory, focusing on Carl Jung's concepts of archetypes, the collective unconscious, synchronicity and alchemy. Briggs is pursuing a professional doctorate in Fine Art at the University of East London, focusing on transformation of the self through art practice and engagement. Born in 1960, she resides on the East Coast of the UK. In 1990, she completed a BA(Hons) in Fine Arts, specialising in painting, at Camberwell UAL. She has exhibited her work in the UK and internationally. Her practice has been enriched by further studies in Computer-Aided Visualization, Art Education (PGCE), Psychology, Analytical Psychology, and Art Therapy.
