ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My approach to painting and drawing has a performative quality. In relation to the material, I carry out each gesture with an awareness of its place within the spatial organization and its impact on the other visual elements. I engage in playful interactions with the peculiarities of the material and the forms I encounter, with the aim of creating new and unexpected relationships. My pictorial interventions are inspired by the limitations imposed by the structure of my supports, as well as by those of the various objects in my workspace. It is a process of mediation, with my plural choices as the subject. My paintings and drawings function in an abstract manner. I chose monochrome backgrounds and two-tone structures to initiate each piece in this body of work. Created in immediacy without a predetermined plan, aside from a few parameters, these new images tend toward drawing. At times, I used my brush like a pencil, applying the material through friction. The visual components respond to and compete with each other; they burst in all directions and are scattered across the surfaces. A tension builds between the painted objects, which become both distractions and landmarks in the spatial organization of the works. Stimulated by the dynamics within the paintings, our attention is constantly redirected to other elements present.
